MMDA ready for typhoon ‘Juan’

10/18/2010 - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has set a meeting in preparation for typhoon Juan.
MMDA chairperson Francis Tolentino led the meeting.
Tolentino said that they are hoping for the best however want to be prepared for the worst, following a zero-casualty directive of President Benigno Aquino III for the typhoon.
Several agencies were present during the meeting. They were the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Bureau of Fire Protection.
Chief Superintendent Nicanor Bartolome, the newly appointed director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCPRO), was also presentin the meeting together with other Philippine National Police officers.
The MMDA is prepaared anytime to set up various equipment like rubber boats. Even manpower would be made available for assisting in possible rescue operations.
The PNP said they are monitoring weather reports from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration, as well as National Disaster Coordinating Council bulletins.
Their responsibility is to give assistance the RDCC to conduct disaster response operations to save lives, protect property, and minimize damage caused by typhoons.
The PNP are also prepared to install equipment such as rubber and pump boats, life jackets, generators, trucks, and rescue vans.
